According to texts in Himvatakhanda, Bhaleshwor Mahadev appeared at the spot where Satidevi’s ‘Bhala’ or the forehead fell off from her dead body. Hindu devotees believe that the Mahadev fulfills one wish of all who come to pay homage to him in the Chandragiri Hills.
History states that it was from here that Prithvi Narayan Shah first saw Kathmandu and aspired to conquer it. It was with Bhaleshwor Mahadev’s blessing that Shah’s dream came true. Local folklore tells of farmers hiking to Bhaleshwor Mahadev during the driest season to receive thunderous downpour before they even got home.
Thanks to the cable car, a pilgrimage to Bhaleshwor Mahadev is no longer laborious.
