2007
On a trip to Chobhar Hills, Mr. Hem Raj Dhakal shared one of his deepest wishes with his brother and his team. He wanted to craft an integrated tourist destination in Kathmandu, which would be a core holiday memory for millions of Nepali families.
2009
Inspired by his visit to the Genting Highlands of Malaysia, on 29th July 2009, Mr. Dhakal and his team registered a company named Kathmandu Fun Park Pvt. Ltd at the office of the company registrar.
2010
The company was registered with the Department of Industry, as an eco-tourism industry. Under the leadership of Mr. Dhakal, Kathmandu Fun Park Pvt. Ltd was envisioned to be a city outside of the city. In July of the same year, the project was recognised as a National priority project by the National Planning Commission.
2016
On 16th May, the project was rechristened to Chandragiri Hills Ltd. A soft opening ceremony followed on 8th August. This was soon followed by a gala inauguration ceremony on 15th December when the Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ officially inaugurated Chandragiri Hills Ltd.
Throughout the journey there were many bottlenecks, one being the 2015 earthquake. Contractors had already broken ground and the construction was underway. Eleven towers had stood along the 2.5 km stretch of wilderness, with a steep elevation of 1,000 meters from the bottom station to the top. Then they were tested by the two strong earthquakes of April 2015. The construction was unscathed.
By July 2016, the cable car installation, the construction of the parking areas, the bottom and top stations, view tower, restaurants & bar, and the stunning Bhaleshwor Temple was complete. In the years since then, Chandragiri Hills Ltd has established itself as one of the most wholesome retreats in the country, featuring activities to entertain and amuse guests of all age groups, and a stunning resort to host guests to this gorgeous hill.
Today, Dhakal brothers’ & their team’s dream project is a reality that truly is for everyone!
